Toilet Paper in the Fridge is The Coolest Trend on TikTok
What do you do when your fridge smells like a dumpster? Some people might clean it, throw away the expired food, or use some natural deodorizers. But others have a more unconventional solution: putting a roll of toilet paper in the fridge.

This bizarre toilet paper hack has been circulating on TikTok, thanks to the Smartfoxlifehacks account, which claims that the toilet paper can absorb bad odors and keep the fridge fresh. The video, which shows a roll of toilet paper squeezed into a corner of the fridge, has gone viral with thousands of views and shares.
The idea is that toilet paper works like baking soda, which is a common household item used to neutralize smells in the fridge. “Put a toilet paper in your fridge in a corner where it fits and then just leave it there,” says the TikToker in the video. “It is important that you replace the roll about every three weeks. For reasons of hygiene, you should also only put a roll in your fridge straight from the packaging and not put it near your toilet!” Sad that needs to be explained, but that’s modern times for you!
But does this hack really work, or is it just a waste of toilet paper? The internet is divided on this issue, with some people swearing by it and others calling it a scam. The comments section of the TikTok video is filled with heated debates and hilarious jokes. “Sodium bicarbonate is better and cheaper,” says one user. Most seem to agree with them. “Nope. Use baking soda box.” Another user says, “I haven’t s#*t in the fridge since that party in college…” Yet another user has similar sentiments: “Let the fridge stink! I need it for my ass! Too expensive to be wasting like that!”
Some experts have also weighed in on the matter, and they are not impressed. They suggest using other alternatives, such as activated charcoal, vanilla, coffee grounds, lemon and oats, before resorting to toilet paper. They also warn that toilet paper might not be sanitary, especially if it comes into contact with food or moisture.
Another TikTok video suggests covering the toilet paper roll in baking soda, to enhance its odor-absorbing properties. But that might not be enough to convince some skeptics, who point out that the real culprit of the fridge smell might be the dirty trays in the back, which are often neglected and harbor bacteria and mold. The TikTok cleaning gurus also recommend cleaning up underneath and behind the fridge, to get rid of any rotting food that might have fallen.
Whether you’re a firm believer in the toilet paper fridge hack or find it utterly absurd, one thing is certain: the internet will continue to surprise and entertain with its endless array of eccentric trends. As the debate rages on, let’s remember to keep our fridges fresh, our spirits high, and maybe, just maybe, our toilet paper where it belongs - in the bathroom!
