Hair Apparent: New Guinness World Record Holder for Longest Hair

The Guinness Book of Records has crowned a new champion of extremely long hair, unseating the previous record-holder by just over 8 inches. But not everyone is on board with the win.

Some people will do anything for bragging rights: go on wild expeditions, drink a ton of beer, be super short… just to win a coveted Guinness World Record. If you’ve been wondering who holds the new title for the longest hair on a living person (female), don’t worry your “Silliest Little Head” a second more. It’s Aliia Nasyrova from Slovakia. At 8 feet and 5.3 inches, Aliia’s hair has found fame in the Guinness World Record book, and she’s being touted as a “real life Rapunzel”, which does not sit well with everyone.

“I know I’m, like, just a fairytale character? But I won’t stand having others compared to me simply because we both have long hair. Look, I was TAKEN from my parents as a baby, named after a VEGETABLE, raised by an EVIL ENCHANTRESS, locked ALONE in a TOWER, and then sent to wander in the DESERT. Things worked out in the end, yeah, but STILL. Don’t pretend this long-haired beauty knows my life. It’s insulting. And PLUS, my hair is 75 feet long, so there’s actually no comparison anyway.”

Aliia may not have beat the record held by a Brothers Grimm damsel, but adding 3 extra feet of hair to her total height of 5’4” beats the world’s tallest living man Sultan Kosen, a Turkish farmer who stands at 8 ft 2.82 inches.

“I have to use crutches to walk, Guinness, so thanks for comparing me to a hairy woman. Real nice.”

Aliia Nasyrova told GWR that she hopes her win will ”inspire people to enjoy human beauty and be natural.” A woman from Massachusetts who had been striving for the same record in 1995 says she would have cheered this sentiment in the past, but that was the year her long locks got caught in a Carnival Cruise hot tub jet and had to be cut off. “It’s actually kind of hard to live life and also be a record holder,” she says. Sobering words.

The injustice of this world-record category as a whole is also not lost on those resting beneath our feet.

“I think it’s outrageous that there’s no category for longest hair on a DEAD person (female) because I know GWR would be astounded to see how much my hair has grown since I was buried. I can’t measure it because I can’t move much inside my coffin, but if someone digs me up, I know I can be a record holder. Also, side note: I think I was murdered.”

Aliia Nasyrova keeps her hair strong and healthy with an occasional trim, a weekly wash that takes 30 minutes, and a commitment to air drying, which can take up to 24 hours. “Nikto na to nemá čas” is a common phrase among Slovakian hairdressers. Translation?  “No one has time for that.”

Enjoy your title, Ms. Nasyrova. Just be careful about wet-hair breakage, hot tubs, and competitive cadavers. Hairs to you!
